Laura and I would again like to invite you to join our team "Deena's Dirt Dashers".  Deena's Dirt Dashers participate in mudruns annually, and raise money for First Candle. First Candle is a leading national nonprofit organization dedicated to safe pregnancies and the survival of babies through the first years of life. Current priorities are to eliminate Stillbirth, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other Sudden Unexpected Infant Deaths (SUID) with programs of research, education and advocacy. Our family was devastated by Stillbirth on August 16, 2012, our daughter, Deena Penelope, was Stillborn after a completely normal and healthy full term pregnancy. Deena was born a beautiful 7 pound, 21 inch long baby, with no signs of distress or medical issues that would explain this tragedy. To this day, after seemingly endless blood tests and examinations, doctors still have no explanation as to why or how it happened. The sad truth is that our family is far from alone in this situation. About 1 out of every 150 pregnancies end in stillbirth, equating to over 25,000 babies being Stillborn in the United States annually. Of these cases, 2/3 of them go unexplained, leaving many families distraught and without closure. This is a shockingly frequent occurrence, that I am sure many are unaware of, including our family prior to our experience with Stillbirth.
